Let the Right One In

LET THE RIGHT ONE IN

In this sensational Swedish vampire story, a bullied boy befriends the weird, androgynous new girl who moves in next door. Turns out she drinks blood to stay alive. More a coming-of-age story or an offbeat romance than a horror film, there are, though, great terror elements too -- a scene in which scores of cats attack a recently infected woman -- where the horror elements kick ass. By now it’s near impossible to make a unique vampire flick, but director Tomas Alfredson does a great job sinking fresh fangs into familiar territory, while managing to make the story morbidly touching too.
