Fashionistas in L.A. who are bypassing Smashbox Studios this season should definitely not miss the inventive designers showcasing their work at BOXeight Studios, which kicked off last night. Designer Michel Berandi put on quite a presentation as the closing designer. Androgynous models came down the runway with a tilt in their strut, long hair extensions which skimmed the floor and very pale makeup. Berandi’s Spring ‘09 collection offered an abstract twist to run-of-the-mill materials, with washed leather jackets, asymmetrical zippers and collars and multi-layers. Color did not abound in his clothing, and instead Berandi focused primarily on greys and blacks. The clothes were very costume-like in presentation, yet were definitely wearable.
