After participating in numerous group exhibits, Brooklyn native Kianja Strobert will have her first solo show this month at the Jack Tilton Gallery in New York. A graduate of the MFA program at Yale, Strobert is using new material (clay) this time around, with hopes of creating new and unforced results both for her audience and for herself. She explains, "I'd like to stay on the side of not knowing, not being comfortable, not being technically perfect."

Jack Tilton Gallery, 8 E. 76th St., (212) 737-2221. Sept. 4–Oct. 6.
