Just Another Day in the Fashion Capital of the World

Mickey Boardman

What a day Tuesday was here at Paris Fashion Week!!! Things kicked off yesterday with the gorgeous Chanel show. It's fashion shows like what I saw yesterday that get kids addicted to fashion.

After Chanel, I spent the day in appointments taking up-close looks at some real gorgeousness. I went cuckoo-crazy for a one-shoulder gown and the other long dresses at Lanvin. Yumzy! At Givenchy, the Spring/Summer 11 leopard print items were mouth-watering, as was this punked up version of a tuxedo shirt with zippers instead of ruffles. At Dries Van Noten it was a bonanza of sparkles, lurex and ombre effects. I wanted an entire rack of brightly-colored sweaters (and yes I know they're for ladies!).

After my rounds, I walked through the Place de la Reine Astrid. Most of you won't know who Queen Astrid of Belgium was but she was the Princess Diana of her day. Born a Princess of Sweden, the gorgeous and chic Astrid married the Crown Prince of Belgium, became Queen, had three adorable children and was killed in a car accident at a very early age. A sad story but I was happy to be reminded of the late great Queen as I sashayed over to the Palais de Tokio for the Alexander McQueen show. What anticipation there was for this show. Sarah Burton, who had been McQueen's right-hand woman for years and years was making her debut as designer of the line. The show included many of McQueen's signature looks but with a more wearable and less out-there take on the situation. That spark of McQueen mad-genius was missing, but it was an extremely pretty show of immaculately made clothes and a great start for Burton.

After the McQueen show I had dinner with Ikram Goldman of the legendary Chicago store Ikram. I just had to include a picture of her smiling face because she's the cherry on the cake that was my day. Well she and Courtney Love who performed at the V Magazine and Printemps party! Quelle jour, as the French say!
