It was a homecoming of sorts for Jil Sander Creative Directors (and married duo) Luke and Lucie Meier, who showed their Fall 2020 men's show today in Florence, the city where they first met as young fashion students. The designers were invited to show there as special guests this season by Pitti Uomo, skipping their usual menswear showing in Paris.
For fall, they staged the runway with several large piles of orange carnations, a nod to the designer's signature references to nature in their work. As is with their women's line, this men's collection saw the pair continue to imbue a softer, artisinal touch to the restrained, minimalist framework Jil Sander herself implemented years ago. Secure the Bag
A variety of bag shapes and sizes were worn with the looks, from mini bucket styles to larger shoulder bag/messenger hybrids rendered in sumptuous leathers.
Statement Necklace
The Jil Sander man likes to wear jewels, and this season's offerings include silver necklaces with pendants depicting a stylized eagle and schools of fish.
Silver Touch
Rows of sterling silver pendants are applied onto cashmere capes, sweaters, and shirts, one of the few instances of visible embroidery.
Fringe-tastic
The crafty, artisanal elements of fringe and raw-edged fabrics are seen on everything from traditional tweed coats to sharp tailoring.
Collar Contrast
The removal silk collars are invisibly buttoned on suits and coats for a versatile look.
