Digital art hub and auction house Artnet is launching an auction of rare photographic prints of your favorite old-school (and a few new school) hip-hop artists where you'll find shots of a young Jay Z hanging out with friends in Bed-Stuy, the Beastie Boys chilling on a bus with Run DMC and babyfaced Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean hanging out and playing music on a building's roof. Represent: Iconic Hip Hop Photography opens for bidding tomorrow and runs through November 19th; it was curated in collaboration with art director and photographer Xavier De Nauw. "As soon as we met Xavier de Nauw, we quickly realized that his unique combination of in-depth knowledge and passion for hip hop made him the perfect collaborator to put together a really unique sale," Bree Hughes, a Specialists in photographs at artnet Auctions, tells us. "We are excited to be offering a very carefully curated selection in this auction, that includes iconic images from artists that had a significant impact on our culture, both in front of and behind the lens." To that end, along with the aforementioned rappers featured, you'll find prints from famed photographers of the scene like Ricky Powell, Janette Beckman and Chi Modu of artists like Tupac, Biggie, Aaliyah and many more. Take a look at some of our favorites on the auction block and go HERE for more information, including prices and additional lots.
