Diversity has been a huge talking point in fashion as of late (as it should be), but one thing that's not-oft represented in these discussions is how we can make models in menswear more inclusive as well. Cue IMG Models, which has just launched a plus-size mens division dubbed "Brawn" with the signing of actor/comedian Zach Miko, who stands 6'6" with a 40" waist.
"Size diversity is something that's relevant and continues to be on everybody's mind," IMG president Ivan Bart told WWD. "We have to extend the conversation for men."
"I want every man in America to say, 'I can do that' when they see Zach," Bart continued, explaining that he knows from personal experience that it can be hard for larger men to find stylish attire. "I consider myself a beefy, stocky kind of guy or whatever buzzword you want to use. I'm in the fashion business and I'm required to dress fashionably but yet I have size issues. It becomes defeating when I don't consider myself morbidly obese, but I go to certain stores they don't have my size."
However, he emphasized that above all, "Brawn has a body positive message" -- which makes it a welcome addition to an industry that's slowly working toward more progressive ideals -- or "a new era" as their Instagram puts it.
