Frank Tell Finds Inspiration in Star Trek and Dan Flavin

Jake Stavis

Yesterday evening I was lucky enough to take a peek at the up and coming Spanish-born designer Frank Tell's Fall line at Milk Studios. Tell, 24, is known for his impeccable attention to detail, and his entirely handmade collection featuring jewelry from fellow PAPERMAG favorite Pamela Love once again wowed humble fashion bloggers (e.g. yours truly) and starlets (e.g. America's Next Top Model's Miss Jay) alike. I had a brief tête-a-tête with the designer.

So I was told that one of the main influences behind your work is Star Trek...
Yeah, it was actually Star Trek-meets-cannibal-holocaust, that definitely influenced the colors and textures... I knew I wanted to do something with metal and the best way to do that was with grommets."

Your set and lighting seems very minimalist...
"I based it off of the work of Dan Flavin. I love Dan Flavin, I did that last season and decided to do the something similar... kind of spacey, and it's also reflected in the collection."
