Once again proving that to be a rich white blonde woman is to live almost entirely without consequence, Felicity Huffman has been released from prison three days early. She was serving a mere 14-day sentence for her role in the "Varsity Blues" college admissions scandal, which also implicated her fellow actress Lori Loughlin, alongside numerous non-famous wealthy people.
Huffman benefited from a policy where Californian inmates are allowed to leave before their release date it if "falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday." She is still required to pay a $30,000 fine and complete 250 hours of community service. In court Huffman admitted to shelling out $15,000 to a third party "tutoring" service which doctored her daughter's SAT scores.
During her brief prison stint Huffman went slightly viral when photographed in a surprisingly chic prison jumpsuit, which Martha Stewart (herself a former inmate) was kind of rude about. Huffman also provided a talking point for prison reform activists, who pointed out the discrepancy between her light sentence and the harsher ones imposed upon other nonviolent offenders.
Those of us hoping to see someone take the fall for the "Varsity Blues" scandal may have better luck with Lori Loughlin, who is accused of paying $500,000 to scam her two influencer daughters into the University of Southern California by doctoring photos to make them seem like athletes.
Loughlin, who is pleading not guilty, has recently been hit with additional bribery charges. She and husband Mossimo Giannulli both face 50 year sentences, but this is America, so don't hold your breath.
