5. The annual SONAR music festival (in Barcelona and A Coruña, Spain, June 17 to 19, 2010) was awarded the "Ciutat de Barcelona" prize for international cultural outreach. We also hear that SONAR plans to return to New York in 2010.

6. A 16-year-old boy in New Mexico won the 2009 International Science Fair for developing a low-frequency radio that can send text messages from deep underground. (via NPR)
