When Nasir and Nargis Kassamali opened their first 600-square-foot store in Miami in March of 1974, the now iconic Luminaire was born. By selling high-end contemporary products directly to the public, they changed the retail norm and helped to launch the current "design" mania. Their outlets in Coral Gables, the Miami Design District and in Chicago are filled with beautiful -- and functional -- objects for home and office. It is only fitting that their first foray into interior architecture and design will also be in Miami, as they are currently finalizing the design of a condo project called Park Lane Tower to be built on 32nd and Biscayne. The condo is one of four projects in the works by Paradise International Development, headed by New Yorker Amir Ben-Zion. Expect sales to start in April with completion in 2008.
