Christian Joy's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Shrimp" Opens at Picture Farm Gallery

Friday night, Picture Farm Gallery in Williamsburg hosted the opening for "Do Androids Dream of Electric Shrimp," a collection of costumes, textiles and videos by designer Christian Joy. Joy is of course best known for outfitting Karen O, and we recognized a few pieces from Yeah Yeah Yeah's performances over the past decade. All of the YYYs were in attendance at the opening and Jason Grisell of Bubbles performed a brief, frenetic set for the crowd of people in the eternal line for the Fig-flavored vodka cocktails, mixed by the expert staff from Night of Joy. The fabulous costumes on display were no surprise, but the top-notch videos projected all night were less expected and do a formidable job of capturing Joy's wild, kaleidoscopic, mod aesthetic. Several of the videos feature iconic model Hannelore Knuts, a frequent collaborator of Joy's, and are fortunately available to view online, such as this one, directed by Jae Song and Claire Carre, and another, which Hannelore directed and stars (and eats a fried chicken sandwich) in. Below, check out photos from the opening.
