ShaGasyia "Shea" Diamond's powerhouse vocals are the star in the video for her rock anthem "I Am Her". Exploring and reclaiming the experience of marginalization followed by self-discovery and self-love, Diamond wrote the single while incarcerated and after she was able to speak and build friendships with other like-minded trans women. Paired with visuals of Diamond dancing, doing her nails, riding the subway, and protesting for trans and black rights, her video asserts her existence as a "statement to a world that said [she] shouldn't exist."
"'I Am Her' means that no matter how the world treats me, no matter if I'm rejected, accepted, denied or misunderstood, I will continue to live out my truth as Shea Diamond," she said. "It was in losing the world that I found myself and the will to keep living as the woman I am proud to be."
