How Cardi B Handled Her #MeToo Experience

by Audrey Turner

Cardi B lends her voice to the #MeToo movement on the upcoming WEtv Untold Stories of Hip Hop episode premiering this Thursday. The notoriously outspoken rapper got candid about a time when a photographer accosted her during a magazine shoot.

"The photographer was trying to get close to me, like, 'You want to get into this magazine?'" Cardi tells show host Angie Martinez. "Then he pulled his dick out."

Cardi then goes on to share her thoughts on #MeToo, acknowledging that because of stigma and shame in underprivileged communities, many stories remain unheard.

"When I see the #MeToo movement, there's girls from the hood I know that went through the same type of treatment, like they make you feel like you got to do a certain type of thing for the most bullshit shit," she explains. "It really happens, really, everyday."

In sharing her own experience with sexual harassment, Cardi illuminates another overlooked truth: no matter how strong or outspoken a woman is, sexual abuse of any kind can happen to anyone at any time. That said, she refuses to be silent.

When asked by Martinez if she still faces the same kind of harassment today, Cardi responded, "Oh, hell no. I'll put you on blast on my Instagram... I'll fucking violate."
