Brooke Candy and TOOPOOR Serve Soft Opulence in 'Freak Like Me'

by Jenny Zheng

In her latest music video off debut album SEXORCISM, Brooke Candy links up with internet pop-goth princess TOOPOOR for "Freak Like Me" — the fourth single to receive a visual treatment, following "FMU" with Rico Nasty, "Drip" with Real Housewives star Erika Jayne and "XXXTC" with Charli XCX and Maliibu Miitch.

In contrast to the goth-meets-yeehaw, all-female biker-gang vision of "FMU," "Freak Like Me" embraces a soft opulent fantasy. Candy and TOOPOOR roll around on white fur carpets and lounge on sumptuous pink velvet couches and silk bedding, wearing similar hair, makeup, and outfits in their scenes together.

It's a startlingly tame music video for Candy, especially considering the song's provocative lyrics: "I'm not America's Sweetheart, I'm more like Jeffrey Dahm," she sings. "Rather be hated for who I am than loved for what I'm not."

In one scene, TOOPOOR helps Candy apply highlight, and in another, Candy and TOOPOOR share a lollipop nonchalantly. The takeaway seems to be that they've got each other's backs, whether as homies or as freaks. Sounds about right.
