Brandon Maxwell Debuted Menswear at NYFW

Once you become known in the industry for certain design signatures, it can be difficult to branch out into new territory. For Brandon Maxwell, who launched his line with monochromatic black and white ball gowns, that takes form this season with the launch of menswear along with more casual, daytime wardrobe pieces. But the mood on his runway was pure optimism, as both men and women strode in confident, wearable pieces with that polished, Maxwell finish. A return to denim and knitwear makes the effort all the more convincing. Here's everything else you need to know about the Brandon Maxwell Spring 2020 collection.

Daytime Glamour

While the brand became known for black and white evening gowns, a newfound daytime elegance made its way through this collection. Roomy sweaters, rolled-up sleeves and casual blazers give a relaxed yet polished mood.

Jean Stories

Maxwell has experimented with denim before, but has never incorporated so much of it as he did in this collection. Light and medium wash jeans and shirts were abundant, and were paired with classic sweaters to dramatic tops with long trains.

Brandon's Boys

This marks the first time Maxwell experiment with menswear. How does a brand known for its feminine ball gowns translate toward a men's line? Simple suiting in rich fabrics, for one. And in keeping with the theme of more daywear: relaxed blazers and versatile button-downs.

Leg Reveal

Skin-baring, sexy cutout dresses appeared towards the end of the show. Skirts and dresses would either cling to the body or come with a long slit on the side to reveal some serious leg.

Jewel Tones

Rich jewel tones popped up on everything from sweaters to dresses and leather pants. Candy-colored coral and bright marigold were just some of the eye-catching hues that popped.
