"Theater separates the men from the boys," states actor Wesley Taylor. "It's very demanding. You constantly see people who can't take the heat." In that case, Taylor and fellow actors Patrick Heusinger and Ben Walker are definitely full-grown. After a year of singing Pat Benatar songs on Broadway in Rock of Ages, Taylor left to join the cast of the much-hyped musical version of The Addams Family, set to open this month. Despite his porcelain skin and ebony hair, he's not an Addams yet. He plays Wednesday's straight-laced suitor, Lucas. But as the Florida native points out, "There has to be something a little 'different' about me. How else would I fall for the eccentric Wednesday Addams?"
With a look that's a little more Abercrombie than Addams, Heusinger is currently starring in Geoffrey Nauffts's new show Next Fall. He plays Luke, whose WWJD beliefs often put him at odds with his homosexuality. "I was literally at home writing a letter begging them to consider me when they called to offer the role," says Heusinger. The play opened off-Broadway last Spring and the Gossip Girl guest star was happy to keep the part when it moved to Broadway last month. "It's so awesome they decided not to put, like, Rob Pattinson in my role."
A few blocks south, Walker is channeling
the fiery seventh president in Bloody Bloody Andrew
Jackson, which opens this month at the Public
Theater. "We have that extra dose of downtown
which brings it into the true realm of rock 'n'
roll," says Walker. A self-described "country boy,"
Walker and his fiancé, actress Mamie Gummer,
just moved from the Upper West Side to Park
Slope, and like Jackson, he's looking forward to
conquering a new frontier--albeit a slightly less
wild one. "I'm excited about Brooklyn. There's a
lot I haven't explored there yet."
