Bands, Booze & Skateboarding: Scenes From the Vans Warped Tour Kick-Off Party

The sweatshirt wearing, Dickies-clad masses descended upon Greenpoint on Friday night for the Vans Warped Tour kick-off party. A tattooed, 18 and older crowd took over the newly opened House of Vans -- a 24,000 square foot indoor skate park and concert venue --- for an evening of bands, booze and skateboarding. There was no shortage of entertainment, which included a photo booth, taco truck, pizza stand and back-to-back performances by Lionize, Moving Mountains, MC Lars, The Wonder Years and our favorite, the eyelinered punk-band School of Rock, who did an impressive cover of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire".

For a few lucky grommets, there was a chance to meet the legendary skaters Christian Hosoi, Steve Alba, Ray Barbee and Jeff Grosso, not to mention a VIP room overflowing with chicken wings, PBR and given the unruly tendencies of the attendees, a curious selection of red and white wine. Surprisingly though, the night's only debauchery came when a few kids without VIP wristbands tried their luck at abducting a handful of wings, only to get served by security. We expect some more creative antics during the 44-date Warped tour, which kicks off on June 24th in Dallas, TX.
