China is on the lookout for any "erotic" banana-eating video, releasing a bunch of new regulations today for live-streams that include the banning of the ~sexy~ fruit. They also banned live-streams that feature anyone wearing stockings and suspenders. This is the Chinese government's attempt to curb "inappropriate" online content (in the weirdest way possible).
The country's ploy to stop pornographic live-streaming comes from concerns that these kinds of platforms are growing their audiences tremendously in China. Specifically, webcam shows where sometimes underage girls sing and chat to mostly male viewers.
The banana ban has a lot of people on social media confused about how the rules will actually work, asking questions like "How do they decide what's provocative when eating a banana?" and "Can male live-streamers still eat them?"
Only time will tell if the government's ban will actually work, but it won't be a surprise if cucumbers or carrots sub for the fruit.
