Art Not in the Museum: Invader Detained!

Gary Pini
The blowback from LA MOCA's "Art in the Streets" exhibit continues this week with news from the LA Times that someone thought to be renowned graffiti artist Invader was detained by the LAPD on Friday.  He and another "French national" were allegedly caught with" buckets of gout and tiles" but were released. LAPD later noticed several pieces that they assumed were created by Invader. Police have also been photographing tags in the museum's Little Tokyo neighborhood and trying to link them to various artists. An LA sheriff claimed that the exhibit "glorifies graffiti" while MOCA director Jeffrey Deitch hoped the show would provide a more inspirational message: "Harness your talent and you can be in a museum someday."
