AN AMERICAN HAUNTING
The first historically recorded killing of a human being by a ghost is given the let's-make-the-audience-jump treatment by director Courtney Solomon. We are transported back in time to Red River, Tennessee, circa 1818, where a malevolent spirit is haunting the Bell family. The ghost mostly attacks the God-fearing father (Donald Sutherland) and his pretty daughter Betsy (Rachel Hurd-Wood). Call this Ye Olde Exorcist; the film comes with lots of slammed doors, snuffed candles, loud noises, and spooky manifestations. Not to mention a dumb narrative twist right out of the Law & Order plot book.
