"I didn't want a show this season -- I wanted a fairy tale," Jun Takahashi of Undercover related to Suzy Menkes when describing his otherworldly still-life Spring/Summer 2009 installation –- an ethereal sci-fi maze that Patti Wilson, Christine de Lassus and I swiftly explored before dashing crosstown to Maison Martin Margiela during this past Paris Fashion Week. Takahashi's handmade fluffy "pets" perched atop the eerily enchanting mannequins' shoulders played up the endearing quality of the clothes –- especially when coupled with collaborating photographer Katsuhide Morimoto's dark fantasy murals flanking the textural, milky-white cottons and silks. Undercover's exquisite springtime wares may be a bit premature to gift during the winter months, so Takahashi and Morimoto teamed up to devise superlative holiday presents to coincide with the S/S 2009 collection: a photobook of Morimoto's delicate, Stygian images created alongside Takahashi's zany bevy of limited edition t-shirts. Grace photo book and T-shirts available soon at Zozotown.
