Thinking Groovy at the Annual Psychedelics Forum

by Gary Pini
The upcoming "Horizons" forum at Judson Memorial Church (55 Washington Square South) takes an open-minded look at the role of psychedelics in "science, healing, culture and spirituality." From October 11 to the 13th, you can hear various researchers and scholars at the 7th edition of the annual get-together. The forum's organizers can be credited with the recent renaissance in psychedelic research; they've taken a more realistic approach to drugs that many people only see as illegal and dangerous. This year's speakers include Anthony Bossis, Linnae Ponte, Diana Slattery, Thomas Roberts and more. Tickets for the forum are available HERE, but there's also a more informal -- and free -- get together to kick the weekend off at the Rubin Museum of Art (150 West 17th Street) from 6 to 10pm on Friday, October 11. The following weekend, October 19th, there's also the premier screening of a documentary film called Neurons to Nirvana: Understanding Psychedelics at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center (199 Chambers Street, 7 pm).
