The Standard New York Celebrates the Launch of Topguest

It seems that just about everyone is jumping on the LBS bandwagon nowadays (that's location-based services, for all you luddites out there). With websites like Foursquare and Google Latitude popping up left and right, social butterflies are whipping out their phones to claim the hottest lounges and speakeasies as their stomping grounds. Though earning cool points for socializing is certainly enticing, wouldn't it be nice to get some actual rewards out of it? Such is the mission of Topguest, the brainchild of software developer Geoff Lewis, whose new website offers users loyalty points and rewards for check ins on a bunch of major geolocation networking platforms, including Foursquare, Twitter, Gowalla, Google Latitude, Yelp, and Loopt. 

Topguest celebrated its launch last night with current exclusive partner The Standard at their brand spankin' new 18th floor pool (rumored to become the new hotspot once the Boom Boom Goes goes members only).  Lewis spotted the Standard during its construction two years ago as he was jogging along the West Side Highway and it was love at first sight.  "I met Andre [Balazs] and the team at the Standard, and it was like 'Wow, these guys are they exact same type of brand that Topguest is: it's about having fun, being casual, being chill, and just enjoying life," he explains. "We aimed to create a reason to check in, and built a really fun, simple, lightweight service to do that." 

Topguest users will eventually be able to check in at an array hotels and restaurants and earn rewards from frequent flyer miles to spa treatments, and just about everything in between. As a special launch promotion, any jetsetter who checks in and stays at all four Standard hotels in a week will receive a complimentary week's stay at The Standard Hollywood, Downtown LA, Miami Beach, or New York. The less ambitious travelers might go for the other promo: check in at any Standard hotel or restaurant ten times and receive up to 25% off your next reservation.
