The Collective by Karolina Zmarlak: Made-to-Measure Magic

Rebecca Suhrawardi Austin

I have Fashion Week jitters! So here's the first twitch: The Collective by Karolina Zmarlak had their first presentation ever. Held last Thursday in a West Village penthouse loft developed by her business partner, Jesse Keyes (who is also a partner at the infamous underground eatery, La Esquina), The Collective rocked the house with their designs as the sun set over Manhattan.

These clothes are not for the faint of heart. They are custom, made-to-measure creations using hand-detailing and rich fabrics that have become lost in today's fast-food fashion culture. Think architecture and beauty meets fashion design for one of a kind pieces tailored perfectly to your own personal dimensions. It is not couture,
all the looks are from a sample line by the designer, the customization comes from your own personal tweaks on those samples (fabric, color, details, etc.) combined with the fact that your order is made from scratch to fit your body like a glove.

And the crowd at the presentation was just as chic as the clothes; a mix of editors, stylists, architects, finance guys, and hipsters sipping lychee martinis and fawning over the artfully-displayed designs. The Collective will be showing the pieces through
mid-September and to get your very own private appointment with the designer, just email jesse@karolinazmarlak.com. Do it!
