From meditations on the simple white T-shirt (one in lace, one in leather) to a unique spin on evening wear (which includes a cummerbund fannypack) Mary Ping's label Slow And Steady Wins The Race is an exercise in taking the ordinary and making it extraordinary. Clothing, shoes, and accessories are produced in limited quantity "issues," each with its own design theme, the newest of which is a rainwear collaboration with Portland store Stand-Up Comedy (perfect for this rainy season).  To snag a hooded cape, a "simple" grocery bag made of leather, or other distinctive items, head to the SASWTR sample sale on 179 Canal Street from January 29-31.
