Michael Fassbender lets it all hang out (literally) in director Steve McQueen's (Hunger) somber, shattering portrait of a sex addict. Fassbender plays Brandon, who by day works in a posh office as an upwardly mobile Manhattan executive, and by night is consumed by sex, whether it's internet porn, prostitutes or casual bar pickups. And like any addict, he's never satisfied. His life is totally disrupted when his troubled, cabaret-singer sister Sissy (an astonishing Carey Mulligan), crashes on his couch. A scene where she brings tears to her brother's eyes with a slow version of "New York, New York," is perfection.
