Let The Right One In, a sensational Swedish vampire film about a young bullied boy who befriends the weird androgynous new girl next door who turns out to drink blood to stay alive, is finally out on DVD. It's more a coming-of-age story and an offbeat romance than a straight up horror flick, but there are great terror elements too -- a scene where scores of cats attack a recently infected woman; and a grisly revenge sequence at a school swimming pool are two examples where the horror elements kick ass. I think by now it’s nearly impossible to make a unique vampire flick, but director Tomas Alfredson does a great job of sinking fresh fangs into these familiar elements and making it morbidly touching too. Hollywood is planning to remake this film and they'll most likely get it all wrong -- they'll probably up the age of the youngsters and it won't have that Swedish ambience. See the original and be astonished...
