Bushwick Open Studios wrapped up its 9th year this weekend with hundreds of events that included the namesake open studios (many in populous artist studio buildings, others in private homes or storefronts), art fairs, parties and performances. The fascinating byproduct of all this was a thriving street culture, especially near the Morgan and Jefferson L stops, where onlookers of all stripes mixed with pop-up performance artists, inebriated wanderers, and of course, the ever-vigilant NYPD. We sought out some studio performances and wandered the streets this weekend in hopes of capturing the essence of the colorful scenes and delightful interactions resulting from the festivities.
