In Vanity Fair's November cover story, Rihanna has some words of praise for Rachel Dolezal -- the former Spokane NAACP president who was exposed as having been posing as a black woman for most of her life. "I think she was a bit of a hero, because she kind of flipped on society a little bit," Rihanna told Vanity Fair. "Is it such a horrible thing that she pretended to be black? Black is a great thing, and I think she legit changed people's perspective a bit and woke people up."

This is in keeping with Rihanna's general skill at trolling -- but it might not be the best way of approaching the issue, or the inevitable, horrible Rachel Dolezal Halloween costumes (seriously, if you are thinking about doing this, please do not) in a moment of ongoing cultural anxiety surrounding both what constitutes cultural appropriation and whether it can ever be justified, but also questions surrounding our collective relationship to our own identities. Stay woke Rihanna, don't give props to Rachel Dolezal, especially when she might still have your money.
