Dear friends,

We have come to visit Los Angeles many times in the 21 years that we have been editing and publishing Paper magazine. And we've discovered one thing: We need each other like Crosby needed Hope, like Martin needed Lewis, like Disney needed Miramax. What a yin-yang Los Angeles and New York make -- from the streets that define New Yorkers as the gritty types that we are to the freeways, movie stars and creativity that make L.A. a petri dish for so many amazing cultural movements.

We may not be the predictable red-carpet types, but we value L.A. for way more than just that. To us it's L.A.'s cultural vibrancy that makes the city so unique and amazing -- from the down-low neighborhood ethnic enclaves to the high-profile art, fashion, design and performance scenes. And, oh, that sunshine! (And oy, that traffic!)

And so we have decided to create a cultural storefront where we can all play and be mutually inspired. It's open to all and we hope you'll come often to hang out. We should also let you know that we will be creating a very special L.A. issue on-site during what we expect to be a historic week for L.A.'s creative community. Our staff is coming with us to help us document all that we see that is wonderful about your city from our eager New York eyes.
