Gramercy Tavern's executive chef, Michael Anthony, is resting comfortably at home with his family after emergency open-heart surgery at Beth Israel hospital. The restaurant's publicist, Leah Herman, provided us with the following statement:
Gramercy Tavern's Chef Michael Anthony was diagnosed with an aortic dissection, a tear in the wall of the aorta, on Friday morning following chest pain. He immediately went into emergency open-heart surgery at Beth Israel hospital. The surgery was a success, and Mike is now recovering from the procedure. The condition came as a surprise, and he is incredibly thankful it was diagnosed and treated so quickly. He is grateful for the outstanding cardiac care he received at Beth Israel Hospital. Mike is now at home recovering, and looks forward to returning to the restaurant as soon as he is able. Deepest appreciation from Mike and his family for all the members of the extended GT family that expressed their heartfelt concern and support.
We wish him a speedy recovery.
