Meghan Markle Will Politely Sit the Hell Out of Trump's Royal Visit

Donald Trump is set to visit Buckingham palace next week. During this appointment, I fully expect at least one member of the royal family to recreate the scene in Love Actually when Hugh Grant eviscerates Billy Bob Thornton on a televised press conference.

However, that's not Meghan Markle's job. Nope. Markle, a savvy diplomat and member of several of the groups of Americans that Trump routinely threatens, has politely opted out of making small talk over tea with her president about the latest in US policy, according to ET.

Markle hasn't made an official statement about why she's sitting out the meeting. However, before she joined the royal family (and was obligated to go quiet about her political opinions and delete her social media) she was openly critical of the president on a number of occasions. In 2016, she called Trump "divisive" and "misogynistic" on The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore, joking that she'd move to Canada where she was filming Suits if he was elected. (She managed to lock down a sweet little apartment in England instead).

While I'd love to see Markle take down Trump, the royal has definitely made the right choice for everyone involved. She's saved herself the indignity of Trump telling her he's a fan of her work on Suits and, the royal family's publicists a whole lot of damage control after the photos of the gathering hit Twitter.
