Martin Margiela may still be working on the fringes of fashion (although they are backed big time by the visionary Renzo Rosso of Diesel fame), but I often see his cuckoo ideas appropriated by other designers. This season, Viktor and Rolf sent models down the catwalk with their necks connected to crazy metal contraptions similar to orthopedic surgical braces mixed with motorized dry cleaning racks (see far left photo from style.com). Margiela did a similar thing a few years ago (second from left). Rei Kawakubo had a fabulous collection this season of cotton candy pastel kiddie easter clothes. Her dresses sewn on dresses (third from left) were also reminiscent of a Margiela idea from the past (at right). But it's never been a secret that Kawakubo adores Margiela... He is her favorite designer!
