Out now on Blu-ray and DVD is Louis Malle's surreal 1975 Alice In Wonderland-like Black Moon (Criterion). In this oddball political allegory, a teenage girl (Cathryn Harrison) wanders through a war-torn terrain and comes to a farmhouse with a crotchety old woman who talks to rats, a mute (Joe Dallesandro, Trash), nude children frolicking, and unicorns. The film received mixed to poor notices when it was released and has never surfaced, even on VHS, until now. It's definitely worth revisiting, however, for its moments of strange beauty and lyricism.
