"You better move your feet if you don't want to eat a meal that is called Fist City," warns Loretta Lynn on her 1968 album's title track, in which a woman threatens another woman she suspects of pursuing the man she's with. Every single lyric in this song, written by Lynn, is rapturously nasty and barbed by her cheerfully brusque delivery. Lynn was approaching a huge wave of fame when it was released, having just had "Don't Come Home A' Drinkin' (With Lovin' on Your Mind)" reach #1 on the Billboard Chart months earlier. This song would also go onto to reach #1. The track is still as lethal as it was 43 years ago (Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino has been covering it on her current tour with Wavves) and that's why Music Video of the Day: Oldie-But-Goodie Friday Edition goes to "Fist City." Hopefully we'll never meet Lynn there.
