Per French law, the third Thursday of November marks the day Beaujolais nouveau wine hits stores, fresh from the annual harvest of Gamay grapes in its namesake region. For three decades since this date was legislated, wine company Georges Duboeuf has staged all manner of international promotions and celebrations for this specific occasion. Last night, to toast the 30th anniversary and unveil the 2012 vintage, a VIP crowd was invited to a magic-themed masquerade ball at a transformed Highline Ballroom. Edgy neo-cabaret acts like Narcissister and Yozmit made for fun times, as did the wandering contortionist and women on stilts filling wine glasses. The main event was the countdown to the reveal of the 2012 bottle, led by techno-illusionist Marco Tempest, after which of course, cases upon cases of the new bottles were uncorked for imbibing. Pics from the evening, an Adam Aleksander and Learned Evolution production, below.
