Lady Gaga Is Swan Gaga in the Video for "Applause"

by Max Kessler

Let's all take a moment this Monday morning to watch Lady Gaga's new music video for "Applause." Sadly, the video isn't as interesting as the ongoing Gaga-Perez Hilton Twitter feud which will probably make many more headlines: instead of heartfelt lines like "@PerezHilton STAY AWAY FROM ME + MY FAMILY YOU ARE SICK TRYING TO RENT AN APARTMENT IN MY BUILDING TO STALK ME. LEAVE ME ALONE," we're stuck with lyrics like "pop culture was in art, now art's in pop culture in me." But, onward and upward. While the official music video for "Applause" doesn't feature drag queens and Vampire Jesus, it does feature Lady Gaga as a swan speaking about the nature of celebrity, as a fashionable pony with an electronic tail, as Botticelli's Venus and as Janet Jackson's 1993 Rolling Stone cover made animate. Watch it and ponder, above.
