Out now on their DVD-on-demand line is the delightful Ken Russell film The Boy Friend. This 1971 tribute to the Busby Berkeley musicals set in a seedy British theater stars the lovely Twiggy as a wide-eyed ingenue understudy who has to go on stage when the star breaks her leg. Co-starring the leggy Tommy Tune, and based on the Sandy Wilson musical, the film's outlandish dream sequences, which morph into full-tilt Berkeley, are loony and enjoyable and Ken Russell seems to be enjoying himself with all the flash and fantasy.
