JFK Jr. on the Beach: A Preview of Jonas Mekas's "This Side of Paradise" Exhibit at agnes b's Galerie Boutique

Alexis Swerdloff
agnès b.'s recently-opened Howard Street boutique/gallery, Galerie Boutique, is presenting quite fall exhibit: "This Side of Paradise" is a show of artist/filmmaker Jonas Mekas's photographs of the Kennedy and Radziwill families, taken in the early-'70s when Jackie Kennedy invited Mekas to spent some time with the families at their summer home Montauk, teaching Caroline and John Jr. how to use a 16 mm camera. Mekas recalls, "Jackie wanted to give something to her children to do, to help to ease the transition of life without a father. One of her thoughts was that a movie camera would be fun for children." The stills are taking from a documentary he made back then (and finally finished in 1999), This Side of Paradise: Fragments of an Unfinished Biography, that'll be screening at Anthology Film Archives on Oct. 13, coinciding with the agnes b exhibit. Here above are some images from the exhibit, which opens Sept. 24th.
