At his best, Jean-Paul Gaultier can really turn it out. At the designer's F/W '12 Paris Fashion Week show yesterday, Joan Smalls looked devastatingly chic and in a black, graffiti-splattered dress under a beautifully tailored tobacco-hued coat. It was the tailored-pieces that were the stand-outs. Karlie Kloss and Frida Gustavsson looked chic and modern in slighty-baggy-but-beautifully-shaped trousers as they glided down the catwalk to the strains of Nico and Lou Reed.
I also loved the knits, which included sweaters with faux sleeves tied in the front and fur-lined wraps that looked like classic shearling bomber jackets turned into stoles. Both were examples of Gauliter's deftness at serving up splashes of whimsy. Check out my iPhone video of the show's finale above.
