Alexander Wang's show on Saturday evening proved that you can be covered-up and sexy at the same time. Knee-high boots, boxy jackets and tops in lacquered fabrics, elbow-high gloves and mesh face masks left very little room for any skin to peek through; but the overall effect was hard, chic and powerful. And after all, what's sexier than power?
My favorite looks were the classic white shirts with patches of fringe. Such a cool and fresh take on a tried and true classic. The collection as a whole looked well-made and expensive with flashes of classic Courreges. It felt like it would be at home closer to Burberry than Rick Owens on the department store floor. The set featured 12-foot-tall mirrors offering nice 360 degree views of the clothes but the lighting was a bit too rock 'n' roll; it was hard to actually see the clothes.
After the models took their final walk, the audience was treated to a second mini-show featuring most of the top models of the past 15 years: Shalom Harlow, Frankie Rayder, Carmen Kass, Karolina Kurkova, Karmen Pedaru, Joan Smalls, Natasha Poly and even Miss Tom Brady, aka Gisele Bundchen! As they sauntered down the runway, the audience whooped with glee. Talk about runway star power!
