Thanks to the folks at Animal NY for sharing this amazing clip from Peter Gessner and Thomas Hurwitz's 1967 doc about young political activist types, Last Summer Won't Happen, set in a way-pre-gentrified Lower East Side and East Village, when it was just a lot of old guys with hats playing chess in Tompkins Square Park, dudes scurrying about in buffalo plaid jackets looking like a cross between Adam Green and Julian Casablancas, pretty girls with pigtails and lots and lots of garbage. The soundtrack is the Velvet Underground's "All Tomorrow's Parties." Enjoy.
