Doug Aitken's Massive "Station to Station" Project Kicks off in Brooklyn

Last night Station to Station, artist Doug Aitken's huge "nomadic happening" of public art, food and music, kicked off its 22-day trek from New York to California with a massive installation in Brooklyn. The train will have a rotating cast of artists and bands on board (as well as food from Station to Station chefs Leif Hedendal and Alice Waters) and site-specific stops in places like Pittsburgh and the sleepy Arizona mining town of Winslow, AZ. On board for the project are artists and bands like Suicide, the Boredoms, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, Thurston Moore, Beck, Cat Power, Ed Ruscha, James Turrell, Nam June Paik, Catherine Opie among many, many more. Below, check out Rebecca Smeyne's photos from Station to Station's launch last night.
