NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick has just launched his Know Your Rights Camp, a new youth program dedicated to raising "awareness on higher education, self empowerment, and instruction to properly interact with law enforcement in various scenarios." The free, Black Panthers-inspired camp is meant for for underprivileged youth, and adheres to the group's seminal 10-point plan. According to the NY Daily News, campers were even given shirts with the list of rights printed on the back at the program's inaugural event this weekend in Downtown Oakland.
"We're here today to fight back and give you all lessons to combat the oppressive issues that our people face on a daily basis," Kaepernick reportedly told the group. "We want to teach you today about financial literacy, how you can pursue higher education, how you can be physically fit and healthy. We will talk about police brutality, and what to do about it, but we also have lawyers, professors, health and fitness experts, because we want you to be able to live the life of your dreams."
