Model Zuzanna Krzatala on Her Favorite Thrift Store, Her "Survival Breakfast Recipe" and Her Slouch
By Julia Frakes

Having recently returned from a jaunt in Bali, prepossessing Polish mannequin Zuzanna Krzatala graciously answered our burning questions. What makes her so lovably endearing? Well for starters the whimsical Zu used to pretend that her garden was in fact Christopher Robin's Hundred Acre Woods. That's more than ample evidence to merit induction our liste préférée!
Julia Frakes: How were you "discovered"?
Zuzanna Krzatala: When I was 13, I escaped with my girlfriends from a chemistry exam in school to a shopping center, where we happened to find an agency scouting for a modeling contest. 'Why not give a try?' I thought at the time. None of my other friends were chosen; and ever since I've skipped more and more school exams!
JF: What do you consider to be your "big break"?
ZK: Doing the Christopher Kane show in London. I entered the fashion industry dressed in a snakeskin printed dress with chiffon ruffles, and that's how I got enrolled on the Supreme board.
JF: Do you believe in luck?
ZK: I believe in hard work and self-belief... that's got to lead you somewhere! Luck is tricky: what easily comes, easily goes away.

About Last Night... The 2008 CFDA Awards Ceremony at the New York Public Library
By Caroline Torem Craig
There are more photos in this gallery. View them all.
Here is a little game called the CFDA Red Carpet Show. Which of the following are my observations and which are outrageous statements other photographers and writers made? (Check back on PAPERMAG tomorrow for the answers...)
''For the love of god, look this way Victoria! She's orange, what's that all about?”
"Tony Parker is pointing to her [Eva Longoria Parker’s] belly, I bet she's going to have his baby."
"You are so right. I rest my case look at this photo -- there's a baby bump!"
"Oh my GOD, there's Naomi and Andre -- who did their styling… Air India?"
"I bet the purple slippers Andre is wearing are not Manolo Blahniks.”
"Lil Kim looks like she's trying to sculpt a whole new body shape."
"Carolina Herrera looks better than girls half her age."
"LL Cool J, Tory…. Tory, LL Cool J, we now pronounce you a new hot couple. One photo is all it takes folks."
''Why is Rachel Zoe yelling at us? Cause we aren't taking her picture?"
"Who's older –- Candace Bushnell or Kim Cattrall?"
"I don't know but the answer is Kim's still sexy!"
"Why is Ashley Olsen in such a good mood these days?"
"New meds? Or maybe it's her new bushy eyebrows!"
"What did you think of the clothes?"
"Do you realize hardly anyone wore black!!"
"Yeah, thank God!"

A Few of My Favorite Things So Far
By Kim Hastreiter

There have been some strong shows this season so far and here's a short list of some of my fave items:
1) Isaac Mizrahi's clever fur jacket in the preppy Fair Isle sweater pattern. Fabulous, no?
2) Maria Cornejo's little beige criss-cross dress. I love Cornejo's sensibility.
3) Narciso Rodriguez's orange coat (Rodriguez's show was fantastic this time around!)
4) Rodarte's tattered knitted dress. It was amazing and lovely show... but this dress just hit the bull's eye for me.

Rodarte Won Super Tuesday for Me
By Kim Hastreiter
WOW. What a gorgeous show Rodarte put on this afternoon. These girls have tons -- and I mean tons -- of talent. They showed swan-like girls with these amazing hair chignons with little beards sticking down the back (you have to see it to understand), wearing the most amazing glittery glamourous fetish shoes (I assume Christian Louboutin, as he was in front row) with impossibly spikey and high heels. The girls looked like spindly insect ballerinas in full, lovely skirts and fantabulous loosely hand-knit dresses that were created with a mess of different textures and yarns. They all wore crazy, half-torn fishnets. Hard to describe but the whole effect was gorgeous and lush. Kind of like as if Swan Lake deconstructed and hippified. I adored it. Kate and Laura Mulleavy have come a long, long way since those homemade woven fabric dresses from their first season. Check out some of the photos (by Caroline Torem Craig).

Barneys' "Future Fashion" Brought Out The Big Guns, All in the Name of Sustainability.
By Mickey Boardman

Barneys' Julie Gilhart brought out all the big name designers for their Future Fashion show, which highlighted fashion made with sustainable materials. From Marni to Versace, Rodarte to Rogan, Isabel Toledo to Diane von Furstenberg, all worn by a cavalcade of the best girls (styled by Brana Wolf, hair by Recine, makeup by Dick Page), it was a tour de force!
Go to earthpledge.org to learn more about sustainability. And check out the shots after the jump!

It's Gonna Be an Eclectic Fashion Week: From Betsey Johnson to Band of Outsiders to Barack Obama!
By Kim Hastreiter
So I've been taking my vitamins because starting Thursday the fashion shit hits the fan. And all in the middle of Super Tuesday madness. This Thursday night I am actually co- hosting a Barack Obama benefit at the home of Sarah Flicker (of Citizens Band) and her filmmaker husband Jesse Peretz. At the same time, I'm on deadline for our huge upcoming March issue which has some amazing fashion in it this time around (not to mention sick photos of Lindsay Lohan taken by Jeremy Scott!)
But back to fashion schmashion. There's a lot of stuff that I am looking forward to. In addition to the old standbys, I think this year I am going to check out the shows of all these young companies who have names that I keep confusing with each other so I can remember who's who. I'm talking about labels like the Band of Outsiders and Obedient Sons and Daughters... (both cool lines that I like a lot.)
I look forward this Friday to dropping into see the work of more fun shows like Sue Stemp, Erin Fetherson, Katy Rodriguez, and Elise Overland (who won the Ecco Domani award this year). All these girls are hot and all their shows are on Friday night!
Then of course I CAN'T wait to see ThreeasFour on Saturday and Alex Wang. Sunday I'm looking forward to seeing what the ex-Trovata kids will be doing at Shipley and Halmos.
On Monday, Betsey Johnson is celebrating her 30th year in biz so I want to go to her show to applaud her for her legendary status. She is somethin' else -- still doing cartwheels down the runway instead of a bow at the age of sixty-something! (see photo above) I cant wait to see what Ben Cho will do and of course on Tuesday I'm gagging to see the Rodarte show! But not till after I've voted in the primary. Remember New York is NOT winner-take-all so VOTE VOTE VOTE.
Wednesday I cant wait to see what Isaac Mizrahi has on show because whatever Isaac does I always seem to love! Our old friend Susan Ciancolo is even showing on Thursday evening which should be interesting...
Then Friday will be two shows that I live for: 1) Sean John (YAY) and 2) Marc Jacobs (I love that he is ending Fashion Week this time around. Great idea!)
Of course all that is just the tip of the iceberg because of course I'll drop in on many more shows.

Baby Lynnie Loves Baby Phat!
By Mickey Boardman

We were surprised to hear that our Fashion Week BFF "Baby" Lynn Yaeger LOVED the Baby Phat by Kimora Lee Simmons fashion show. Mr. Mickey is always up in the mix at Baby Phat but there are those that might say the "urban" crowd doesn't fit in during Fashion Week. Yaeger, a fashion icon who writes for the Village Voice, Vogue, Travel & Leisure and the NY Times Magazine, gave us her opinion:
Mr. Mickey: Why did you love the Baby Phat show?
Lynn Yaeger: Because it was young and fun and the clothes were so affordable and the gorgeous models were, for once, not all white people.
MM: Have you been to a Baby Phat show before?
LY: I think once a long time ago but then I got scared off by the chaotic door scene.
MM: What other shows did you love during Fashion Week?
LY: Rodarte! ThreeAsFour! Marc when it FINALLY started!
MM: Do you think Baby Phat has a place in NY Fashion Week?
LY: Of course! Why not?

ThreeAsfour & Rodarte: Gorgeous!
By Kim Hastreiter

Two shows made us really happy yesterday even in the midst of all the insanity.
Rodarte showed a gorgeous gorgeous collection as did Threeasfour. I really think both of these crews are reaching their stride and are really doing great work. Rodarte's clothes were breathtaking and the Mulleavy sisters are definitely maturing in their craft.
Threeasfour's show was not only inventive architecturally with amazing new seaming experimentations for their new take on tailored suits and jackets, but their work is SO CHIC! I think Gabi from Threeasfour is like the alchemist/scientist who figures out all the construction blueprints, but it is Adi and Angela who add the CHIC chic style to it all.
What a great combination. I'm so happy for them. They deserve to win the Vogue prize. And Rodarte should have won last time around for sure. Unfortunately those contests like the CFDA/Vogue awards get way too distracted by business issues and trendiness issues often neglecting to look hard at the work and judge by creativity, design and merit. I'll cross my fingers for them because Threeasfour has struggled for way too long and deserve to get some cash infusion into what they do. If they do this with nothing, imagine what they can achieve with some capital! (I swiped the photos of the Mulleavys and Threeasfour from style.com.)

GAP's New Fashion Collectibles
By Kim Hastreiter
As many of you all saw from the giant ads all around town that appeared today, GAP has launched their special young designer capsule collection of white shirts and shirtdresses by the three CFDA/Vogue award winners: Doo-ri, Thakoon and Rodarte.
The stuff is CUTE, not to mention cheap, and I think super collectible and available today while the supplies last in GAP shops and on line where you can buy everything. When Roland Mouret did a little GAP line, the clothes sold out in what seemed to be a minute, so if you want some of this stuff my advice is to buy it right now.
Remember the blog I wrote two weeks ago about opening a shop that would sell all these low priced fabulous designer collabs, from Target to Uniglo to Top Shop to H&M? Well these GAP pieces need to be in our fantasy shop also! See how cute these white cotton 88 dollar dresses are (from l-r) Doo-ri, Rodarte, Thakoon. (There are also some really fab shirts available as well for 68 bucks each).

Rodarte, Thakoon and Doo.Ri fall into the Gap
By Kim Hastreiter
So the Gap is taking some tips from their competition and wooing some young designers to do some very limited capsule collections, sure to get the company some new buzz which they seem to need desperately. According to yesterday's Fashion Week Daily Gap has bought into the Vogue CFDA awards with a 1 million dollar donation. The three designers chosen were the winners and runner-ups of the Vogue CFDA prize: Doo.Ri, Rodarte and Thakoon (all pictured below). I cant wait, I must say, to see what the Rodarte girls do for the Gap!!! I'm sure it will be smart.
Wouldn't it be great if someone opened a crazy eclectic retail store that reflected all these low priced high designer colabs and only sold all this inexpensive fashion stufff? In the shop could be : Behnaz Sarafpour, Isaac Mizrahi, Libertine, Proenza Schouler all for Target, Karl Lagerfeld, Viktor and Rolf and Madonna all for H&M, Kate Moss, Vivienne Westwood, Zandra Rhodes for Top Shop, Roland Mouret, Rodarte, Doo.Ri, and Thakoon for the Gap. Oh and of course Thom Browne's mens and womens wear from Brooks Brothers. Then they could sell Pumas by Alexander McQueen shoes and Adidas Stella McCartney stuff. And there are so many more! That would make an incredible store don't you think?
