Will From Mexico Ends Up in the Front Row!

Meanwhile, outside the Givenchy show earlier this week, a super cute kid from Mexico named Will ran up to me and wanted to get a picture of the two of us, which naturally thrilled an old ham like me. He's a student and trying to get into the shows. Flash forward to the Lanvin show and there he is sitting on the stairs until just before the show when he sees an empty seat in the front row and grabs it. Who is he sitting next to? Superstar photographer Mario Testino, French Vogue's Carine Roitfeld and singer Kanye West! Not a bad spot.

Love to Love the Lanvin

It's hardly going out on a limb to say that Alber Elbaz makes the magic happen at Lanvin. Alber is an old friend of PAPER and a total pussycat -- humble, sweet and über talented. This was Mr. Mickey's first Lanvin show and he got a little verklempt (that's yiddish for choked up). Things were a lot more close to the body and fitted this season than last time and there was a lot of black! Alber does an amazing job taking the classic feeling of Lanvin and making it fresh. We loved it! It also didn't hurt that just before the show Kanye West came over to MM and took MM's picture saying he liked the Lia Sophia Red Carpet Collection necklaces MM was wearing. MM is a Lia Sophia whore thanks to the designer, MM's dear dear friend Miss Dani Stahl! Check it and her out!

Upbeat and Accessible Fabulousness at Nina Ricci

By Mickey Boardman

Sunday is a big day at Paris Fashion Week with shows like Louis Vuitton, Miu-Miu and Lanvin. And things got off to a bang with the Nina Ricci show at the Tuileries. Editors and glamourpusses alike go gaga for Olivier Theyskens' romantic and sweet designs, and there was plenty of sweetness to enjoy today.

Something else there was plenty of were really pretty and wearable clothes for daytime. One editor came out of the show almost in shock saying, "I don't feel melancholy!" The daytime looks especially were drool-inducing. Slouchy but flattering satin pants, wispy blouses and modern uncomplicated jackets are something every woman can get into, particularly in the rich autumnal tones in Theyskens' palette this season. Love it!

Fashion Big Names Gather for the Barneys Alber Elbaz Party

By Mickey Boardman

Last night was the gorgeous party that Barneys' Howard Socol and Iman held for Lanvin's adorable Alber Elbaz at the Bowery Hotel. Poor Mr. Mickey had to rush over at intermission from the Wooster Group's Hamlet, now playing at the Public Theater. MM j'adores Alber and couldn't miss him. The party was super glamorous and here's a line up of Fashion Ladies that'll prove it. When MM went to snap the picture of Victoria Bartlett, Daryl Kerrigan, Adi & Ange from Threeasfour and Barneys' Julie Gilhart, who should walk by and interrupt the photo but Narciso Rodriguez! It was a fashion clusterfuck people!

Check out the final photo after the jump!

Word of Mouth

Fashion Week Mouth Off: A Few of My Favorite Things... and Amanda Peet

By Carol Lee

fashion week

I do have a few favorite things about this Fashion Week. For one, I thought Chloë Sevigny’s Lanvin outfit (the top had a drawing of a girl face and slightly torn/fringy shoulder straps -- so fresh!) at the lunch for Alber Elbaz was crazy cute and I loved the granny glasses she was rocking. They were very Rachel Comey for Spring '08. Chloë really knows how to accessorize and I really admire that about her. Really.

Then I really fell for Patrick Rzepski. For real. I didn’t know much about him but his collection reminded me of vintage Bruce circa 2000 which is full of rebelliousness and femininity. And those stockings sans girdles -- how do they work?! I have no idea but they are sex-ay!!

I don’t know if it’s because I’m in the midst of a hyper eye shadow phase with makeup at the moment (no liquid eyeliner for a while) but I felt very drawn to the makeup with a capital M at Alexandre Herchcovitch.

Oh, and even though I'm not a fan of hers, I think Demi Moore looks uh-mazing! She’s beaming and stunning in all the photos I’ve seen of her so far (at Une Journée à Paris and the Lanvin lunch). And she looks very natural like she hasn’t had any work done which is a look I dig. Mr. Mickey told me a Demi anecdote from the Lanvin lunch which maybe he can fill you in on later. I don’t want to end on a sour note, but I just want to say that Amanda Peet’s style leaves something to be desired. I don’t know if it’s her acting chops or her fashion choices that I can’t get over but whatever the reason there’s a block.

Fashion Schmashion

Welcome to Schmashion Week!

By Kim Hastreiter

alberThis Fashion Week is nuttier for me than any one I can remember in years. First of all, NOTHING makes me crazier than a taxi strike in New York City. I refuse to take subways and am too poor to get a car and driver for Fashion Week, and so with the insane fashion show schedule coinciding with an insane taxi strike compounded by my ridiculous schedule, I have had to edit severely. For God's sake, the fashion world wants us to travel from an 11 a.m. show on Sixth Avenue at 40th St. to a noon show on Grand and West Broadway to a 1 p.m. show on a pier at Tenth Avenue and 36th St. to a 2 p.m. show in a church on Ludlow Street to a 3 p.m. show back at the tents at 40th and Sixth Avenue. And with no taxis? I mean, GET REAL. It's a bit over the top.

Not to mention, my dearest friend, designer Ingo Maurer, is opening his show at the Cooper Hewitt on Monday night right at the same time as the Marc Jacobs show. Oy. I will go to Ingo's opening, scoot to Marc Jacobs at the Armory, scoot back to the Cooper Hewitt for a dinner after the opening and hope no one notices. PLUS, I will be multitasking fashion and art this Saturday, going to five shows PLUS squeezing THE FABULOUS ART PARADE which PAPER, CREATIVE TIME AND DEITCH PROJECTS sponsor at 4 p.m. on West Broadway in SoHo. DONT MISS IT! I will be driving the Heartschallenger ice cream truck so scream, "Hi!" if you're there. On top of that, I am preparing to learn to play the TRIANGLE (the musical instrument), because next week I'll be dingling a triangle in Los Angeles for three days at the Hollywood Bowl with my old friend's orchestra Pink Martini, who will be collaborating with Carol Channing (divine).

Mr. Mickey Loves Mrs. Kutcher!

By Mickey Boardman

demi mooreIt's only day two of Fashion Week and Mr. Mickey is ready to name his favorite fashion week cutie! Drum roll please!!! Demi Moore! How gorgeous is she? Totally amazing. But what won her this spontaneous yet coveted title is the fact that she's so nice and friendly. Mr. Mickey and his protégé Lynn Yaeger were chatting with Harper's Bazaar's Glenda Bailey and Barneys' Simon Doonan at the Couture Council luncheon honoring Lanvin's divoon Alber Elbaz, and Demi just jumped in and chatted along! She was there with Glenda and the two were seated with Alber along with gorgeous Chloë Sevigny (who told me she's having a tag sale on her block on Saturday!), Linda Evangelista and Iman. What a table of glamourpusses.

So the verdict is WE LOVE DEMI!!!

In other news, Linda E., also quite friendly, was teasing Alber who was messing with the ruffle on Linda's blouse. She playfully pushed his hand away, turned to the mirror to fix it and playfully said, "You don't know ANYTHING about fashion!" Snap!!!
