About Last Night... Vanity Fair's Tribeca Film Fest Party, La Reve: Indulge the Dream and Helmut Lang's Sloane Crosley Book Party

By Caroline Torem Craig

There are more photos in this gallery. View them all.

The Vanity Fair party, which traditionally kicks off the Tribeca Film Festival, has become almost a déjà vu happening, in that every year “the regulars” attend. Don’t get me wrong, this is not a shabby guest list, starting with the likes of Robert De Niro and Grace Hightower, Martha Stewart, Iman and David Bowie, Diane Von Furstenberg, Jane Rosenthal and Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld. I thought I spotted a new face, one that could launch a thousand ships, among the arriving guests, but then I realized Zoe Kravitz had attended this party before, with her dad Lenny.

Over at the Puck Building, La Reve: Indulge the Dream, a benefit for Michael J. Fox’s Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, took place. Folks like Samantha Cole, Ricki Lake and Mya, dressed to the nines, lent their support.

Helmut Lang threw Sloane Crosley a glitzy book party for her essay collection, I Was Told There’d Be Cake at their Meatpacking District store. Literary types (Jonathan Ames and A.M. Homes) and fashion world heavyweights (Meredith Melling Burke and Gilles Mendel) were present and accounted for.

If I write a book I am going to title it I Was Told There’d Be a Goody Bag!

About Last Night... Movado Future Legends Awards and Alber Elbaz Party at The Bowery Hotel

By Caroline Torem Craig

Last night at the Movado Future Legends Awards, Kerry Washington wore a smashing Cleopatra, flapper-style number while Mikhail Baryshnikov arrived simply cloaked in his permanent aura of LEGEND! At the terribly sophisticated and beautiful Cooper-Hewitt Museum, we asked about Kerry’s hot little number and she told us, “it’s Alberto Ferretti -- and all the jewelry is Movado!” Sometimes, being politically correct is a good thing. The gorgeous Mia Maestro looked great in beaded black. At least three over-60, well-heeled gentlemen came up to me to ask if any BIG celebrities were at the party. How disturbingly cute is that? Natalie Cole has the most luminous silver, grey-green eyes my camera had ever seen and she got a kick out of hearing that. Gilles Mendel, Rufus Albermarle and John Barrett were among the guests who enjoyed a performance by Wynton Marsalis.

Rushing from one great event to another is always a harrowing experience, especially if one is on 91st and Fifth and the other at Bowery and 3rd and both are held at the same witching hour! There was also no certainty about being on the list!

Fashion Big Names Gather for the Barneys Alber Elbaz Party

By Mickey Boardman

Last night was the gorgeous party that Barneys' Howard Socol and Iman held for Lanvin's adorable Alber Elbaz at the Bowery Hotel. Poor Mr. Mickey had to rush over at intermission from the Wooster Group's Hamlet, now playing at the Public Theater. MM j'adores Alber and couldn't miss him. The party was super glamorous and here's a line up of Fashion Ladies that'll prove it. When MM went to snap the picture of Victoria Bartlett, Daryl Kerrigan, Adi & Ange from Threeasfour and Barneys' Julie Gilhart, who should walk by and interrupt the photo but Narciso Rodriguez! It was a fashion clusterfuck people!

Check out the final photo after the jump!

Bethann Hardison Brings It: Talking About a Revolution

By Rebecca Carroll

naomi campbellThere's very little that pleases me more than a room full of beautiful black people.

Especially when the room includes André Leon Talley, Naomi Campbell (who could not have been more delightful, by the way), Liya Kebede, Tyson Beckford, Constance White, Iman (could she possibly be more beautiful?) and the legendary Bethann Hardison, who both organized and hosted the event -- a town hall type gathering held at the screening room at the Bryant Park Hotel to address the lack of black models in the fashion industry.

There were other people of color and white folks in attendance, too, but it was mostly gorgeous brown-skinned faces, many of whom I recognized from various projects and points in my career: former model and author Barbara Summers, who spoke vividly at the meeting, was an interview subject in my first book, I Know What the Red Clay Looks Like; the exceptionally dope-ass fashion stylist Michaela Angela Davis, with whom I sat on a panel at the Smithsonian some years back, was there kicking it on point; and my dear friend, the brilliant documentary producer, Selina Lewis Davidson, was there filming the event for a doc-in-progress she's working on with Bethann.

Mr. Mickey Loves Mrs. Kutcher!

By Mickey Boardman

demi mooreIt's only day two of Fashion Week and Mr. Mickey is ready to name his favorite fashion week cutie! Drum roll please!!! Demi Moore! How gorgeous is she? Totally amazing. But what won her this spontaneous yet coveted title is the fact that she's so nice and friendly. Mr. Mickey and his protégé Lynn Yaeger were chatting with Harper's Bazaar's Glenda Bailey and Barneys' Simon Doonan at the Couture Council luncheon honoring Lanvin's divoon Alber Elbaz, and Demi just jumped in and chatted along! She was there with Glenda and the two were seated with Alber along with gorgeous Chloë Sevigny (who told me she's having a tag sale on her block on Saturday!), Linda Evangelista and Iman. What a table of glamourpusses.

So the verdict is WE LOVE DEMI!!!

In other news, Linda E., also quite friendly, was teasing Alber who was messing with the ruffle on Linda's blouse. She playfully pushed his hand away, turned to the mirror to fix it and playfully said, "You don't know ANYTHING about fashion!" Snap!!!

Reporting from the Front Lines of the Vanity Fair Tribeca Film Fest Party

By Alexis Swerdloff

PAPER nightlife photographer Caroline Torem Craig is the nightlife photographer to end all nightlife photographer. Here's her report from the Vanity Fair's Tribeca Film Festival opening night party the other night:

jessica seinfeld, Narciso RodriguezOn a warm and breezy Monday evening, celebrities ascended the beautifully-dressed Supreme Court steps (I am referring to hundreds of tiny candles and orange lights). It was the Vanity Fair opening party for the Tribeca Film Festival. Every year it is THE challenge to catch a flick of of Robert DeNiro as he makes one last grimace and races by the red carpet. David Bowie usually leaves the "posing " to Iman but this year, to our delight, he was incredibly animated and shared with us the fact that this was their 12th year anniversary. As he neared my camera, I asked if they were "still spiders from Mars." I truly don't know if he heard me, but this little dance move occurred out of the blue.

It was such a TRIP to see Narciso Rodriguez direct Jessica Seinfeld to pose for PAPER.

kerri washingtonWhile it is common knowledge that Whoopi Goldberg can be cranky, this evening she told ET (as she glanced at nearby guest Kerri Washington), "See, I lost her in weight -- I lost 43 pounds and that's just about what she weighs."

Some of the other guests were Minnie Driver, Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon, Harvey Wenstein, Amy Sacco, Amy Fine Collins, Christy Turlington and Ed Burns, Walter Cronkite and host Graydon Carter. Interesting note: these were all loyal attendees last year and the year before.

One of the most bizarre questions posed to Kerri Washington was what she thought about Alec Baldwin's tirade and inappropriate phone call to his daughter. Without skipping a beat, she replied she was not a parent so couldn't comment except to say anything that took our minds off the war in Iraq was a good thing.

Mr. Mickey on the Fashion Party Train!!!

By Mickey Boardman

iman and rachel royluigi tadinichloe sevigny and proenza schouler

Whew! Mr Mickey is still recovering from Wednesday night's mad spree of shindigs. MM started out at a little shindig for the designers Libertine who have a fun project coming out this summer (more on that when the time comes!). Then it was off to Saks for a party for the gorgeous and chic Rachel Roy. Check out the shot of her with fellow stunner Iman. Honestly, MM j'adores Rachel's look toujours! MM was in such a fashion state that he snuck up to the semi-recently renovated and fabulous men's floor at Saks and bought a new spring jacket by Mr. Michael Kors!! And it was beige without a sequin on it!
Saks was where all glamour girls and boys were: Peter Davis, Jackie Astier, Damon Dash, Saks' mustachioed Michael Fink.

Then it was onto the sumptuous Versace mansion/Boutique for a Save Venice party cohosted by Vogue. Tinsley Mortimer, Byrdie Bell, Ivanka Trump, Hana Soukupova and a cavalcade of cuties packed the place. The star standout was Luigi Tadini, who is without a doubt, the most delicious dreamboat in New York or Sao Paolo!!!

Finally we shook our tired fashion tuchases up to Bergdorf's for a Proenza Schouler soiree hosted by PAPER's favorite cover star Chloe Sevigny. The store looks great and Roopal Patel and Linda Fargo are always chic and sexy! Kai Kuhne was creating some drama with Christian Laliberte, socialiterank.com's least favorite boy about town. It was an uptown downtown mix of Ben Cho, Eugenia Silva, Fabiola Beracasa, Lauren Davis and Helen Schifter. Fashion is a lot of work sportsfans!!!
