Au Revoir The Good The Bad & The Ugly

By Carol Lee

The

After eight steadfast years of dressing everyone from Britney to your co-worker sitting next to you in tight-ass, high-wasted jeans -- first on E. 7th St. then at the swankier Kenmore St. digs -- the beloved downtown boutique The Good The Bad & The Ugly is shutting its doors, and quite frankly we're shocked! We're not sure of the reasons why but the email we got gives us some reassurance by saying "No fear, Judi Rosen New York will live on. Stay tuned." True to its character, GBU is going out in style by holding a three-day good-bye blow-out featuring "booze, babes and bargains," and final sales days will be July 11 and 12 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. (Below are the details on the party schedule.) So run on over there and grab the marked-down goods while they last. This sure does feel like the end of an era. We're all so broken up over the sad news but we wish Judi and her co. all the best and we can't wait to see what the inimitable Judi Rosen's got up her sleeve for the next round!

Arty Party

By Kim Hastreiter

braid girls

The Art Parade yesterday was a joyful insane explosion of wild ideas people, art and plain old fun. Thank God we can still participate in something as uncommercial as this in new York. On arriving I ran into artist Kenny Scharf, almost unrecognizable as a cave man on acid. He was the grand marshall of the parade and was being pulled by a golf cart driven by my near naked friend Paula who is not only my gardener (I kid you not) but an amazing striptease performer who came from Seattle for the occasion. Kenny had his teeth all blacked out and was wearing nothing but a black diaper with a giant bone (no not boner) in it and eating a huge skewer of donuts. As I turned around I saw my other friend Kembra Pfahler in her usual scary gear (which almost seems normal to me now but would actually frighten Al Qaeda into surrendering if they ever caught a glimpse of her). Our vehicle was the Heartschallenger ice cream truck which we decorated in my driveway (to my doormen and neighbors' dismay).

Diesel generously bought Heartschallenger 1,000 ice cream pops so we threw them out to the sweaty grateful crowd as we lallygagged along the parade route down West Broadway to Grand Street. It was so much fun but then as soon as we turned the Grand Street corner it was back to Fashion Week. We hopped a cab and headed for Threeasfour's show! If you want to see lots of photos of the parade yesterday check out Eric Mortonson's page on flickr (see some photos below... I especially like Eric's photo of the girls who were attached to each other by braiding their hair together.)

Welcome to Schmashion Week!

By Kim Hastreiter

alberThis Fashion Week is nuttier for me than any one I can remember in years. First of all, NOTHING makes me crazier than a taxi strike in New York City. I refuse to take subways and am too poor to get a car and driver for Fashion Week, and so with the insane fashion show schedule coinciding with an insane taxi strike compounded by my ridiculous schedule, I have had to edit severely. For God's sake, the fashion world wants us to travel from an 11 a.m. show on Sixth Avenue at 40th St. to a noon show on Grand and West Broadway to a 1 p.m. show on a pier at Tenth Avenue and 36th St. to a 2 p.m. show in a church on Ludlow Street to a 3 p.m. show back at the tents at 40th and Sixth Avenue. And with no taxis? I mean, GET REAL. It's a bit over the top.

Not to mention, my dearest friend, designer Ingo Maurer, is opening his show at the Cooper Hewitt on Monday night right at the same time as the Marc Jacobs show. Oy. I will go to Ingo's opening, scoot to Marc Jacobs at the Armory, scoot back to the Cooper Hewitt for a dinner after the opening and hope no one notices. PLUS, I will be multitasking fashion and art this Saturday, going to five shows PLUS squeezing THE FABULOUS ART PARADE which PAPER, CREATIVE TIME AND DEITCH PROJECTS sponsor at 4 p.m. on West Broadway in SoHo. DONT MISS IT! I will be driving the Heartschallenger ice cream truck so scream, "Hi!" if you're there. On top of that, I am preparing to learn to play the TRIANGLE (the musical instrument), because next week I'll be dingling a triangle in Los Angeles for three days at the Hollywood Bowl with my old friend's orchestra Pink Martini, who will be collaborating with Carol Channing (divine).

We Love Heartschallenger

By Kim Hastreiter

heartsrevolutionOur Cali friend Leyla is launching a fabulous new heart shaped vinyl Heartschallenger CD (see photo above). Leyla, for those who remember, is our great artist friend who drives that cute ice cream truck around Los Angeles and now New York City. Her music is awesome (she makes it with her boyfriend Ben) and her new vinyl is amazing, not to mention amazing-looking. It comes in Day-Glo and with lots of fun stickers. You can get it at Colette (I introduced Sarah from Colette to Leyla when she was last in town and they got along famously!)
