Caribbean Fashion Week: Island Vibe on the Runway, Pt. 2
By Carol Lee

With 15 designers showing per night for three nights it was a downpour of madcap creativity on the runway during Caribbean Fashion Week. The shows would keep going late into the night and on the last night the final designer took a bow close to 2 a.m. Actress Vanessa A. Williams walked in almost every other show. Eve's "Fetish" line fell short of wowing the crowd which is too bad. For a pinch of randomness Deborah Roberts of ABC's 20/20 was in the audience laughing it up with actress Nia Long.

Caribbean Fashion Week: Eve and Nia Long Backstage

Backstage is always fun to visit for a) killing time (lots of it); b) ogling at the models; and c) in the case of the Caribbean Fashion Week, catching glimpses of Eve and Nia Long getting primped before they strutted out on the runway.

Caribbean Fashion Week: Things Are Moving Along -- Slowly

Triple-Yay! First, we did eventually venture out to the Opening Night Gala at the Pulse (the company that put together CFW) headquarters around 10. And today I nabbed a cable for the camera so I got some pictures to show y'alls. Last but not least, they changed my room for me so now I'm overlooking the palm trees and the pool. The party last night was fun with all the trimmings provided by an endless number of corporate sponsors and local foods. I loved the DJ because he played a lot of my fave jams like "Freak Like Me" by Adina Howard, "Facinated" by Company B and "Sensual Seduction" by Snoop. I was in my element and I really enjoyed the people I met and was hanging out with. One of them is this awesome lady Vivien Goldman who turns about to be an old friend of Kim and David's (she says hello!) from the SoHo News days and an expert/writer on the Jamaican music scene. She's also a sometime professor of Punk and Reggae at NYU.
This morning I went to the press conference with a panel of dignataries, organizers and corporate representatives. It was supposed to start at 10 but the first speaker didn't go on till 10:45. I think I'm starting to get the hang of the irie time zone. Another great thing about the lax attitude is that the shows don't start till 7 in the evening. I'm thrilled to be here! Designers from all over the world will be showing their collections, including Barbados, Guadeloupe, Trinidad, Nigeria, Antigua, India, Canada, Romania, the U.S., the U.K. and of course Jamaica. Next year, they're shooting for a 4000-cabin fashion cruise around the Caribbean. Sign me up! And get this, for a splash of celebrity glam, Eve will be showing her line "Fetish" on Sunday and will be walking down the catwalk herself. Fun!

About Last Night: CFDA's 7th on Sale Gala
By Caroline Torem Craig
Last night the floodgates opened to the resounding roar of celebrities sashaying in all their glory lighting up the miserable old Lexington Armory for the CFDA's 7th on Sale Gala. The air was giddy with perfume and excitement in the cavernous space which is stocked with donated designer goods to be sold at a fraction of their cost benefiting AIDS Research.
It was the best attended party this decade! Think the Oscars meets the MET’s Costume Institute Gala with a dash of the the MTV Video Music Awards. Let me just drop some drop-dead names—Kate Moss,Kate Bosworth ,Bette Midler, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Elle Macpherson, Valentino, Naomi Campbell, Dita Von Teese, Eve, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Jennifer Connelly, Parker Posey! Ok, I have to stop, but it was truly an amazing night! See for yourself below!

About Last Night... The VH-1 Hip-Hop Honors Awards
By Caroline Torem Craig

We worked the red carpet last night at the VH1 Hip-Hop Honors Awards at the Hammerstein Ballroom. Can you guess how many of these legends, pictured here, have been on the cover of PAPER? I'm thinking almost everyone! Chuck D, Snoop Dogg, Fab Five Freddy, LL Cool J, Eve... Two former cover girls, sadly, were not there... Lil' Kim and Foxy Brown. On a funny note, an interviewer asked an unusually jovial Busta Rhymes what he thought about Britney Spears. It was with an equally unusual calmness and courteousness that he said he thought that she really was a very nice girl. HUH! It is a moment like that which tends to stop your clock.

Bar of the Week: The Anchor
By PAPERMAG Editors
If you’ve been a fixture on the New York nightlife scene since your teens and you’re starting to feel like you want a mellower vibe than those fully fabulous Bungalows and Marquees, you might just have to open up your own place. That’s what the three friends (and now business partners) Amanda Silverman, Chrissie Miller and James Cruickshank have done with The Anchor. Silverman, one of the most powerful celebrity publicists in town, says with a laugh, “We’re getting old, and we wanted our own place to get drunk at.” The Anchor has the cozy and relaxed vibe of your friend’s basement, and is the kind of place where you never know what you’ll stumble onto. One night it’s a bunch of cute JAPs chilling; the next, a birthday party hosted by supermodel Jessica Stam, featuring an alarmingly well-endowed male stripper. Or it might be all boldfaced Hollywood names like Bosworth, Olsen and Dunst or the street-cred crowd with Eve, Drea de Matteo and Damon Dash. It’s equal parts hipster, hip-hop and high-end all brought together for cheap drinks in a regular hangout. 310 Spring St., anchornewyork@gmail.com. Mickey Boardman
